Great, another opportunity to smear the liberty movement....

...in the form of 53-year old Joseph Stack crashing his plane into an IRS building in Texas. Stack wrote a suicide note/manifesto that has now been published on the web where he decried the IRS, its coercion on individuals in society, and the coercion embodied in taxation.

My worry now is that people are going to take this piece of information and take it to mean that opposing taxation is somehow a lunatic idea put forth by lunatics capable of such a barbarous act as Stack committed. No doubt they will then try and tie that to libertarians like myself, because of their conflating the tea party neocons with the libertarians who STARTED that movement.

I think every single lover of liberty needs to help make sure that people understand that genuine opponents of the state and taxation understand that they can never resort to the very same tactics, those of violent force, that the state and taxation are based on. Anyone who does so has apodictically proven that they are not real opponents of violent force at all.

Alex Peak has a phenomenal blog entry on this incident and the correct libertarian reaction to it: http://lastfreevoice.com/2010/02/18/confused-man-crashes-plane/
